our friend the shell

Over three years I have accumulated a ridiculous array of shell scripts
for performing scala-related things. Mostly they're only of interest to
compiler hackers and other low-level operating people, but I figure
there are a few such people around here. I'm going to try to start
turning them into reusable things. I would really like not to be "the
shell script guy" in this domain, so as a baby step toward encouraging
others to follow suit:

like to contribute things you find useful. If the above commit does not
make clear what I'm talking about, hang on a little while and the haze
