GSoC - Scala Index
Wed, 2011-09-28, 08:32
Hello friends,
I would like to ask you about the 2011's Google summer of code project - Scala Index. I didn't find it in accepted projects. Was noone interested in the project? Or has it been rejected? I'm asking because I would be interested in taking this project over GSoC 2012. I'm finishing my bc studies this year and i know it's not recommended to do GSoC during that time, but i think i should have all the coding for the thesis reasonably soon so i think i would have time to code this application.
Thanks for the answers,
Tomas Herman

Re: GSoC - Scala Index
Hello, sorry about bothering with this again, but can i ask if all the work topics that are (will be) posted on scala-lang.org when gsoc 2012 start are guaranteed to be accepted by google? Or does google still have to evaluate those? I'm just asking because it would be quite surreal for me to work on project backed up by google so i want to know if it's only scala-lang people who i would need to persuade that i'm good enough or google people too.Regards, Tomáš Heřman

well, it is a bit more complicated.
we have to first convince Google that we are an appropriate organization first and get accepted. We got in twice but I don't know how Google's decision process works.
Then you have to convince us (probably me as an admin for organization again next year and someone else who would be willing to supervise it).
So yeah, for you only we matter ;)

nobody applied for that project this year. So unless the need for it goes away(because an alternative solution pops up, for instance), it will be available forGSoC 2012.
