Dear Lists,

Now is the time to write up your experiences with your Scala library, the tool you have been developing, or any other research that you have been performing in the context of Scala. (Including that revolutionary idea that struck you during one of the legendary scala-debate threads. Shorter papers are also welcome, if they have potential to generate interesting discussions at the workshop.)

More precisely, for the workshop -- the research track of Scala Days -- we seek papers on topics related to Scala, including (but not limited to):
  • Language design and implementation – language extensions, optimization, and performance evaluation.
  • Library design and implementation patterns for extending Scala – embedded domain-specific languages, combining language features, generic and meta-programming.
  • Formal techniques for Scala-like programs – formalizations of the language, type system, and semantics, formalizing proposed language extensions and variants, dependent object types, type and effect systems.
  • Concurrent and distributed programming – libraries, frameworks, language extensions, programming paradigms: (Actors, STM, ...), performance evaluation, experimental results.
  • Safety and reliability – pluggable type systems, contracts, static analysis and verification, runtime monitoring.
  • Tools – development environments, debuggers, refactoring tools, testing frameworks.
  • Case studies, experience reports, and pearls

The dates you should mark in your calendar if you're planning on submitting a paper:
  • Submission:   Jan 16, 2012 (Monday at noon, CET)
  • Notification:    Feb 20, 2012
  • Final revision: Mar 16, 2012
  • Workshop:      April 17, 2012

I'd also like to extend a big thank you to this year's program committee:
  • Nathan Bronson (Facebook)
  • Hassan Chafi (Oracle)
  • Miguel Garcia (EPFL)
  • Cay Horstmann (San Jose State University)
  • Nathaniel Nystrom (University of Lugano)
  • Bruno Oliveira (Seoul National University)
  • Jorge Ortiz (Foursquare)
  • Seth Tisue (Northwestern University)

For more information, please consult the full CFP at http://www.scala-lang.org/node/11609.

Whether you intend to submit or not, be sure to mark the date for Scala Days 2012: April 17-18 2012 at the Barbican in London! (Note that registration is not open yet. We will get back to you when we are ready to take your registration.)
Last year, Scala Days brought together almost 300 industry experts and researchers.

looking forward to your submission, and see you there!

Re: [CFP] The Third Scala Workshop
What length of papers are you shooting for?  I'm specifically thinking in the tools category.  The topic I'm thinking of doesn't make any theoretically novel contributions, so I would normally expect a 6-10 page limit, but the CFP doesn't really specify.

Re: [CFP] The Third Scala Workshop
I guess I could read the CFP on the site to get this information.  Nevermind!  :-)
