running the scala plugin

If the devel.dist target of scala-plugin/build.xml has run to
completion successfully, then you should have a dist directory at the
top-level of the project containing a local Eclipse update site ...
you should be able to install directly from that.

Check if the plugin class "scala.tools.eclipse.ScalaPlugin" is actually
present in the "bin" folder of the plugin. I had experiences where some
scala files in the project would be silently not compiled.

yup, here is the problem. bin/ is empty. what's worse project doesn't compile even if I try to clean and build it again.
any solution for this?

I have not tried to compile the plugin for quite some time, but as far
as I can remember, adding classes from the "scala" plugin output folder
("/scala/build/locker/classes/...") to the build path helped with
building, and adding "org.aspectj.runtime" as the first dependency
helped with running. Also I remember fiddling with import settings from
scala-plugin-aspects at some point. And following the sequence of "build
scala-complier", "build scala-library", "build scala-plugin-aspects",
"build scala-plugin" when building also did matter.

On the other hand, maybe current scala-plugin nightly build simply can't
build itself properly. It also has happened several times.
