Re: [ANN][netbeans] NetBeans(6.8) plugin for Scala 2.8.0 RC1
how far is this plugin developed, compared to the one for idea? afaik
someone from jetbrains is working fulltime on it. i've been using it
for a month now, and i can see it understanding the code better and
better. does anyone know both well enough to compare them?

very friendly Caoyuan's communication which I'm happy to have with my humble

Re: [ANN][netbeans] NetBeans(6.8) plugin for Scala 2.8.0 RC1
Excellent. This is a great plug-in and this makes Netbeans my preferred platform for Scala currently (good job!) - but I notice since switching to Scala 2.8rc1 recently, when I try to compile a working project I get an out of heap space error now. This happened with the previous plugin (i.e. before I updated it) and continues to happen with this new one too. I've tried adjusting various heap options such as the ones suggested for the plugin itself. Since this happened when switching to scala 2.8rc1 (rather than plugin itself) did something in this version get much more memory intensive and have a knock-on effect into he plugins?
cheers, Louis

Louis, you can try to build your project outside of NetBeans, i.e.
under command line, for Ant project, try "ant clean build", for Maven
project, try "mvn clean install", if heap space still runs out, then
it should be caused by Scala-2.8.0 runtime, you may want to increase
-Xmx for ANT_OPTS and MAVEN_OPTS

Re: [ANN][netbeans] NetBeans(6.8) plugin for Scala 2.8.0 RC1
When running via maven-scala-plugin, MAVEN_OPTS is not used to define the options of scalac (who run is spawned process by default)see http://scala-tools.org/mvnsites/maven-scala-plugin/usage_compile.html#Increasing_memory

Re: [ANN][netbeans] NetBeans(6.8) plugin for Scala 2.8.0 RC1
Hi,
Ok finally got a chance to try it out.
Have set ANT_OPTS to -Xmx2048m
running ant from the command line using the Netbeans ant build file, it still throws an out of heap space exception.
I also previously had tried setting -J-Xmx2048m in netbeans.conf options as well, this didn't make any difference either.
So I guess the conclusion is that it's not really the new 6.8v1.1.0rc2/ plugin, but rather a problem in Scala 2.8.0 RC1, which is a shame. I did notice when updating to 2.8.0 RC1 that the compile phase takes much longer before finally crashing, so maybe I've hit some runaway condition in the compiler that eventually chews up all the heap.
Anyone else experiencing this? My project maybe contains 50 files or some, maybe 75-100 classes. But nothing particularly special or fancy. I'll try out some simpler projects, I imagine it will be fine when compiling a small number of modest sized classes.
So, when's Scala RC2 out? :)
Wonder if for now I can revert the scala platform back to a working one and still use it with the newer plugin, is that likely to work - well I'll give it a try and see what happens.
cheers, Louis

Re: [ANN][netbeans] NetBeans(6.8) plugin for Scala 2.8.0 RC1
hi,
i had given up with the netbeans plug-in exactly because of these OutOfMemoryError thing after ultra long compile times. same thing, tried -J-Xmx2048m, no difference, tried ANT_OPTS, no difference. i think the cause is the build.xml produced by netbeans. i also didn't have a massive amount of classes, and compiling them directly with scalac from the terminal was no problem, so it is not the scala build itself that has a problem.
are you by chance on osx?
best, -sciss-

Yes indeed, latest OS-X Snow Leopard and Java (64bit). I was getting on reasonably will with versions of Scala pre 2.8 RC1 (2.8 beta & trunk nightlies etc) - using the last NB 6.8 Scala plugin, it seems something has either tipped it over the edge or become significantly worse recently. I checked that compiling individual files works, it's fine and not too slow either, so possibly the current configuration doesn't scale well or is hitting something specific that sends it off into hyperspace...
Well, hopefully there will be a resolution soon. In my case if it won't build from the Ant file then this rules out this work around which is a shame, that would have been fine for the time being.
cheers, Louis

Re: [ANN][netbeans] NetBeans(6.8) plugin for Scala 2.8.0 RC1
Hi,
I've tried updating with the latest Scala nightly from the trunk and it's still broken for me, from cli or ide alike.
Just to check, with the path to the Scala platform directly in the netbeans.conf file and the (and -Xmx settings) it will be picking up the right Scala platform? as updating Scala hasn't made any difference so far.
Be interested if anyone has any ideas on how to resolve.
cheers, Louis

Your work on this plugin is much appreciated and in my opinion makes NetBeans the finest IDE to program Scala in.
