We are currently publishing a summary of each of the weekly meetings of the
Scala Core Team.

This information is made available as a service to the community. It is by
necessity rather brief and gives only a rough approximation of the main
points of discussions explored during each meeting; it should not be taken
as a source of reliable information, nor as a record of concrete or firm
decisions, nor as anything other than a record of a simple discussion.

The summary that follows is primarily intended for Scala contributors and
maintainers. If you are not a contributor to the Scala system, the
information below is unlikely to be very useful to you, and you might lack
some of the necessary background to make sense of all the discussion items.

We do not have enough people on the team to be able to write a more
complete record, and we might also not have the resources to discuss every
point in detail afterwards. Nevertheless, we hope that this record, cursory
as it is, is better than nothing.

Scala Meeting 2010-04-13

People attending the meeting: Tiark, Phil, Martin, Alex, Donna, Hubert,
Adriaan, Miguel, Philipp, Ingo, Toni, Gilles, Iulian, Lukas.

* Current work

- Tweak and fixes to Scaladoc
- Non-null checking
- Work on Scala .net compiler
- Cleanups in actors
- Specialisation
- Fixing bugs, and documentation

* 2.8 release candidate
- Specialisation is not working right now, and it is not clear how much
work is needed for it to work --- fixes to current problems tend to break
other things. We should aim to have all ready by Wednesday morning
- Partest is causing problems: it needs to be hardened again to catch
everything for each test, and never, ever die silently which is a huge problem.
- Apparently, specialisation problems only occur in files that contain
specialise attributes: as such, it seems we do not have a regression. That
does not seem to be a showstopper for an RC.
- Scaladoc: the size is now 100MB, but other size reductions are much
harder to get. With comment and signature recycling, we can reduce 25-35MB,
but at a considerable cost. For the time being, Scaladoc is good enough to ship
- No other blockers reported.
