IMHO it would be excellent if Ubuntu "jaunty" 9.04 (i.e. the April 2009
release) could ship with Scala 2.7.3 instead of 2.3.0.

Does anyone know what would be needed for that to happen? Any volunteer(s)?

Why can't it be updated before then? (General question, eclipse, netbeans are also not updated within a Ubuntu version, but the newer versions don't need anything Ubuntu doesn't already have)

Re: Ubuntu still has Scala 2.3.0
If a package is included in Debian that can be compiled into a Ubuntu packages without having to update any core libraries of Ubuntu it can be a candidate for the backports repo.
