scala on opensuse

scala is available as RPM on opensuse. I packaged it and submitted 2.7.3.final to their build service.
There is a one click install available
http://software.opensuse.org/ymp/openSUSE:Factory:Contrib/openSUSE_11.1/scala.ymp
plus RPMs
Erik.

Sure, that's all fine. I just noticed the RPM package for fedora, it has
few extra features I'll try to integrate.
And btw, it would be nice to have the links to these packages in the
"download" section.

Is that RPM for Fedora, for scala 2.7.3?
I am missing 2.7.3 since the main fedora update site doesn't seem to have one (still with 2.7.2).

The current maintainer of the Fedora port is Geoff Reedy, he will be able
to give you an update about the status of the Fedora packages; I am CC'ing
the message to him.

In theory, it should be possible to make one RPM out of the opensuse
build service for all RPM distributions. All the dependencies are quite
generic, if someone could give it a try on other distributions and also
try to build the src.rpm it would be of great help.
Erik.

I'm working on the 2.7.3 package right now. It is a rather complicated
procedure to build scala such that it meets the fedora packaging
guidelines so it takes a while to update the package. Look for it to
show up as an update early next week.

To summarise an off-list chat I had with Erik, I tried open suse RPMs posted here on Fedora 10 using yum. The repository was correctly added and the yum downloaded the scala rpm, but before installing the package yum hit this snag:
Running rpm_check_debug
ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve:
rpmlib(PayloadIsLzma) is needed by scala-2.7.3-2.1.noarch
Complete!
(1, [u'Please report this error in http://yum.baseurl.org/report'])
I don't understand enough about RPM to solve this.

Thanks a lot Geoff for maintaining the Fedora packaging. I use these packages regularly.
I have reported one bug against this package, concerning JLine. It has a trivial fix but I end up using the fix all the time. The bug report is available here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=scala
PS. I am using an NNTP reader for this list, and I am unable to add a CC. Hoping that Geoff follows this list.
Erik, this is a useful contribution. I will add you and these packages to
the Distributions section in our maintainers page, if that is ok with you.

Thanks!
