SourceForge certainly took their time. I submitted the request in 2007!

Is sourceforge less relevant with the rise of Github and Google Code?
I prefer both of those sites to sourceforge, personally.

yes, because a lot of the newer projects are over at Google Code and GitHub
no, because sourceforge still has many important and popular projects up there.
honestly, sourceforge needs a lot of catching up to do as far as providing tools for current style collaborative development is concerned. Google Code according to me is the most elegant of the three.
