I notice that the Eclipse Scala IDE has easy access to the Scala
interpreter. However, I cannot find it in Netbeans; does it exist
there?
Thanks.

You can also set a shortcut:
(Tools->Options) -> /Keymap/ _Search_: Scala
Edit Interactive Scala Shell shortcut, then [Tab] [Enter]
I use Ctrl+Alt+S.
