Scala 2.8.1 and Scala 2.9 in ScalaLab

Hi all,

in my experience in building ScalaLab
Scala 2.8.1 performs significantly faster and
without some subtle problems with the Java Swing that the 2.9 branch has
within the ScalaLab environment.

Therefore I think the 2.8.1 branch is preferable to continue my work.

However, I think also that in order to develop a more effective
scientific programming environment, I should be much more familiar with
the Scala Compiler in order to customize its behavior.
Can somebody assist me in that?
